Great ideas, but doesn't provide framework 2007-02-27 First, be aware that the word "unclutter" in the title of this book is referring to the clutter of life, not necessarily the clutter in your garage. Uncluttering your home is not even covered until Step 6. The earlier steps are more about goal setting, establishing priorities, living in the moment, time management, finding your passion, etc.
Also, this is not an actual plan or program that will help you add shape to a chaotic life. Rather, it is seven chapters of loosely grouped tips, and there are so many darn tips that even completing a small fraction would be a major accomplishment. On pages six and seven, these tips were offered, each with a few lines of explanation: 1 Ask for help. 2 Document your day in your diary; try to account for every hour. 3 Schedule time for yourself in your daily planner. 4 Commit to putting yourself first for three weeks. 5 Keep a journal (this time, in addition to recording your activities, also write how you felt about them). 6 Give yourself 15 minutes to enjoy each day. 7 Create a positive self image by acting like the person you want to become.
My biggest gripe though is that the tips are not in any particular order and contain much redundancy. So, you can see that tip 2 is unnecessary since tip 5 encompasses it. Also, tips 4 and 6 should logically be grouped together, and also made to make sense together. (How can I give myself just 15 minutes a day AND put myself first?) Since organizing is about putting like things together, I would say that someone needs to declutter this book! As it is, the poor reader is left to sort it out.
This book contains lots of good information, but would be much more effective with better organization.
Disappointing 2003-02-17 Since the title is "7 Simple Steps" I thought the book would offer a clear, specific program for getting organized. Instead, it's more of a general advice book for overall self-improvement. The first chapter, for example, is about losing weight and getting in shape, and the advice is frustratingly familiar. Eat lowfat foods, exercise every day, etc. etc. There's not much in this book that the average reader of women's magazine won't already know.
Extremely Helpful 2001-09-05 I highly recommend this book. It provides very practical ideas in an organized, accessible way. Changed my life !!
A "Must-Read" 2001-09-01 Donna is a master at sharing simple, practical and easy-to-use ideas. I absolutely love this book. It's become my handy little constant reminder whenever I allow my life and my office, in particular, to fill up with unnecessary stuff. It's definitely a "must-read" and "must-have" addition to everyone's library. Hope you enjoy putting Donna's ideas into practice as much as I have.
