Editorial Review:
Across America, people in search of inner peace and better health know Jon Kabat-Zinn as the clinical researcher and teacher who dared to bring mindfulness practice out of the meditation hall and into the most respected pain management center in the country. On Pebbles and Pearls, Kabat-Zinn turns his attention to another challenge - how ordinary people can use meditation in the arenas of the workplace and the family. Join Jon Kabat-Zinn as he shares a host of insights and methods that you can apply to real-life situations: how to use work as a contemplative practice; advice on mindful parenting; grounding yourself in your body; how to work with overwhelming emotions; and much more. "In the yogic tradition," teaches Kabat-Zinn, "the world is described as a spinning grindstone. You can be completely chewed up by it - or you can position yourself so that you hone yourself, like a blade." On Pebbles and Pearls, you will learn how to take the wiser path, at the side of this pioneering expert on meditation and mind/body healing. Cached date: AWS Called=true

Chat from Jon 2008-05-13 I have gotten so much good from the writings of Mr. Kabat-Zinn, especially his book and CD on depression. This was, for me, a meandering talk that made me wonder why he bothered to issue it. I felt like my money had been wasted.
Pebbles & Pearls 2007-11-14 I liked these meditations, however they are each 45 minutes long. That is a very long time for me to sit.
As usual, excellent insights from Jon Kabat-Zinn 1999-03-23 Don't pay attention to the description on the back of the box as well as that given in the beginning of Tape 1--the content in the tapes is actually quite broad. These descriptions inaccurately reduce the tapes' actual content. The tapes are actually live recordings of a presentation Dr. Kabat-Zinn gave at a Zen conference of some sort in San Francisco about mindfulness in everyday life. The sound quality might not be top-notch, but, for me, this didn't matter. Dr. Kabat-Zinn, as always, speaks with such sincerety, conviction, and plain logic, that you'll find his messages on embracing the present--no matter how painful or ugly--hard not to take to heart. While he is talking to an audience of people who had gathered for the conference, you feel as if you are right there with them all. The 2-hour "Pebbles and Pearls" is separated into 15 minute segments, two of which are guided meditiations (with the audience participating), and the rest of which are explanations and encouragement about incorporating mindfulness into everyday situations. You might find the material more familiar, and therefore more helpful, if you have heard or read some of Dr. Kabat-Zinn's previous works. If you feel stressed, that something is just not right, that something is missing in your life, or experience chronic anxiety, pain, or depression, then you should listen to what he has to say.
